Reprimands in German are scary...
I got yelled at in class today. Why? Well, there is this part where
we've been doing all kinds of generally mind-numbing things for hours
lately. I get to a certain point where I can't stand to be sitting there
anymore, and at that time, I start doing other things.
In the case of today, we were going through some boring stuff in the "Blue
and White" book, and I became more entertained with generating creative
answers to the questions than doing the intended exercises. (Something
about adages involving animals... like lazy as a _____ (sloth)) In my
case, I was saying things like, "Lazy as a fat man on Sunday". (Faul wie
ein dick Mann an Sonntag.)
Not to blame anyone but only to help relate the story, Corinne was trying
to answer the questions that she actually knew in my book, albeit
she was generally about as bored as me. I, looking for something to keep
me occupied, was trying to stop her, in a non mean or confrontational way.
In the process, we made a bit of a distraction for Frau Schulz, and well,
I got yelled at in German. (No idea what she said, but she was obviously
yelling at me... something about me making my own studying without
the rest of the class or something along those lines...)
I bit my tongue like a good student, and such, but I mean, seriously...
All I really wanted to say was, "Wann ich nur hren, ich schlafe. Ich
kann nicht in Unterricht schlafen, so ich muss etwas ander machen. Bitte,
halten Ihr Mund." (translation: When I only listen, I sleep. I can't
sleep in class, so I have to find something else to do. Please stop
talking.)
In any case, that was my day. Just thought I'd share it with the world.
GG, KTHX.
